Work is set to begin on a controversial new care home on North Deeside Road.

The £63m project was rejected by Aberdeen City Council in 2020, but Holyrood overruled the decision.

The 65-bedroom "luxurious" facility is being operated by Meallmore - which operates a further 27 care homes across Scotland - after securing the funding from HSBC UK.

It's hoped that the home, which will include a cinema, hair/nail salon, and bedrooms with private balconies, will be ready to open in less than two years, with the project creating upwards of 80 jobs.

Meallmore managing director Cillian Hennessey said: "It’s a strategic move that fuels our vision for future growth, enhancing our ability to positively impact communities with personalised care services."

Neal Tully, global relationship director, HSBC UK, added: "We’re thrilled to further support their expansion plans which will create jobs and enable them to offer high quality care to more people across Scotland."
