Woodend Barn recognised amongst Scotland’s leading cultural organisations, actors and artists

Woodend Barn was delighted to be a finalist for the Sunday Herald’s inaugural Culture Awards - a major new awards event celebrating the best of Scotland's world-class artistic scene.

The Barn was nominated for the Best Performing Arts Venue alongside Glasgow’s Tron Theatre, The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and The Glad Cafe. The judges included author Alan Bissett, journalist Ruth Wishart, actor David Hayman and Idlewild's frontman Roddy Woomble.
The evening was MC’d by Janice Forsyth with Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs Fiona Hyslop opening the night. It took place on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at SWG3 in Glasgow. Outlander actor Sam Heughan, Game of Thrones star Kate Dickie and The Thick Of It's Paul Higgins were among the stars walking the red carpet as finalists.
The Best Actor awards on the night went to James McAvoy (screen) and Alan Cumming (theatre) who streamed messages from the USA, where they were filming.

Jennifer Phillips, one of the Barn's resident producers, collected an award of behalf of dance artist Jack Webb- who won the 'One to Watch' category. Jack will be bringing his acclaimed dance show The End to the Barn on September 11 so there were several reasons for celebration on the night!

Lorraine Grant, director at Woodend Barn says, "The Barn team is really delighted to have been a finalist amongst some of Scotland's leading artists, productions and venues. The night was a great success and highlighted the hard work, ambition and creativity within Scotland. It was an honour to be a part of it and we hope we will be back again at next year's 'Cultural Oscars of Scotland'!"
There is no rest for the venue as the Barn gears up to promote SOURCE, their weekend of global music and food in August with MOBO Award winners Sons of Kemet and Mercy Prize nominated ESKA taking to the stage.
