Wood Group smashes ARCHIE’s target

Wood Group has gone above and beyond in its fundraising efforts for The ARCHIE Foundation’s High 10 campaign, resulting in a grand total of more than £265,000.

The initial pledge was to raise £200,000 to support two of the campaign’s steps, the renovation of the reception area of the hospital, and the garden and play areas at its front and rear. This was the biggest single sponsorship package ever received by The ARCHIE Foundation.

The additional funds raised by Wood Group will go towards funding a family liaison worker at the Young People’s Department (YPD) at Royal Cornhill Hospital. Wood Group has supported YPD over the last four years as part of its involvement with The ARCHIE Foundation by volunteering to redevelop and maintain the garden area there.

Tony Dinozzi, group head of mergers and acquisitions at Wood Group who has been spearheading the fundraising drive, says: “The target we set was ambitious and the fact that we have surpassed it by this significant amount is testament to the passion and drive of our employees. Despite the downturn in the oil and gas sector this year, Wood Group’s people have committed their time and effort to supporting this worthy cause, underlying our dedication to helping people in the areas we work in.”

There have been a number of innovative fundraising activities by Wood Group, which have led to the achievement. This included the ARCHIE’s art exhibition, golf days, a team climbing ten Munros, racing the Baker Hughes 10k and baking up a storm - all in aid of ARCHIE’s.

David Cunningham, Chief Executive of The ARCHIE Foundation, adds: “This has been an amazing achievement from everybody in Wood Group. Their original donation is enabling us to make a huge difference for children and their families visiting Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital. When the work is completed in 2016 there will be a wonderfully warm welcome with the new gardens and reception area that will help to take away the scariness of coming to hospital.

“On top of that Wood Group has now enabled us to fund this important post in YPD, which we are delighted to do. It is hard to find the words to express our gratitude to everyone concerned but on behalf of the children and their families a very big ‘thank you’ from us all.”
