Wood Group PSN puts support for Maggie’s in top gear

Maggie’s Aberdeen, the charity which offers free practical, emotional and social support for people with cancer and their family and friends revealed its very own Rainbow City taxi for the first time on November 20, 2015.

The striking lilac design on the Toyota Avensis has been sponsored by Wood Group PSN (WGPSN) as part of its ongoing commitment to the charity.

WGPSN CEO Dave Stewart will join Maggie’s Aberdeen Centre Head Susan Sutherland at the Centre in the grounds of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary today before the taxi takes to the roads in the City and Shire.

Mr Stewart joined the Maggie’s Aberdeen board at the start of the year after spearheading the firm’s drive to support the Monty’s Maggie’s Appeal which raised £3million to build and help run Maggie’s Aberdeen. The fundraising efforts of WGPSN employees generated £200,000 for the appeal, which was led by Maggie’s, the Elizabeth Montgomery Foundation and the Press and Journal.

The vinyl wrap is one of several activities that the company is involved with, as well as an art event planned for late next year and its on-going Pennies for Promises effort – the activpayroll giving scheme that allows employees to make a donation to a charity directly from their pay.

Mr Stewart said: “As a company, supporting local communities in which we work is of paramount importance and the level of dedication and drive from WGPSN employees to fundraise for Maggie’s is commendable.

“Personally, joining the board has further strengthened my commitment to Maggie’s Aberdeen, which is open to anyone touched by cancer at any stage in their life.

“On behalf of WGPSN I’m delighted we could help produce an advert that quite literally has mileage and we hope it succeeds in increasing awareness for those who want to use and support the Centre.”

Susan said: “The effort and enthusiasm from WGPSN has been invaluable in the past few years, helping grow the Centre from an acorn to a great oak tree.

“Dave has been the driving force behind this support and it is a privilege to have him on the board ensuring Maggie’s offers the best possible support to anyone in the Aberdeen area who is affected by cancer.

‘We are looking forward to spotting the Maggie’s taxi around Aberdeen and the Shire and hope it spreads the warm Maggie’s message.”

Charity partnerships with corporations like WGPSN help Maggie’s raise essential funds to keep Centres running. Offering payroll giving and donating time and skills are some of many ways companies can support the annual £0.5million needed for the Aberdeen Centre alone to run.
