This month Whittaker Engineering Ltd celebrate 40 years in business, 1983 to 2023.

The family-run firm, founded in 1983 by Ken and Janet Whittaker is based in Stonehaven, just south of Aberdeen.

Ken Whittaker said “We began with a handful of staff, investing in new equipment, adding specialisms and recruiting people to meet growing demand. As the industry encountered problems and opportunities, we worked with our colleagues and clients to meet each new challenge. We’re part of the history of the North Sea, and we’re proud of it.

The company has come a long way, and we would like to take the opportunity to thank all the staff past and present, customers & vendors for their support. Next month we host a party to celebrate this milestone”

“We are very proud to continue Scotland’s tradition of precision engineering and manufacturing in an economy where making things is less prevalent than it was - we’re keeping valuable skills alive and at home in the UK. At any one time we have around a dozen apprentices - we take on five or six a year for a four-year Modern Apprenticeship - so we’re investing in the next generation of skilled workers.

We engineer, design and fabricate mighty machines and components, but we remain a relatively small, family-run firm. So we’re extremely responsive and nimble. Our clients have access to the business owners at all times, and we can provide fast, effective responses to problems and opportunities”

Ken and his son Murray now employ over 140 people at their Stonehaven facility to support their Fabrication, Machining, Engineering, Inspection & Testing, Maintenance & Repair and Project Management services.

In 2009 Whittaker Mexicana was formed, this facility also offers high quality Engineering and Construction services to Mexico and wider LATAM market. Located in Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche meaning the 50,000m2 site is ideally situated to support the Mexican Oil & Gas sector.

Currently, Whittaker employs 30 people in Mexico.
