Community Food Initiatives North East (CFINE), local charity, hosted a volunteers’ celebration event on November 2, 2018 at ‘Cook at the ‘Nook’ training kitchen to express their appreciation for commitment and passion of the volunteers. Lesley de Jager, CFINE chairperson and councillor Dunbar, representative of Lord Provost, presented certificates for longstanding service, dedication and outstanding support.
CFINE is supported by c. 250 volunteers throughout a year, three of whom have been serving the charity for over 12 years. Volunteers are the backbone of the organisation, without them, CFINE - as well as any other non-profits - couldn’t exist. The charity considers it fundamental to celebrate those who contribute to their cause by sacrificing time and energy.
Volunteers give a lot to CFINE, but they also receive; improved confidence, new skills and social networks. Many of the beneficiaries are vulnerable, disadvantaged and have few or no family and friends at all, therefore, the time they spend at CFINE goes beyond ‘doing good’ for the community, it also means socialising with their ‘second family’.
“We were delighted to host this celebration event and to have the opportunity to thank all our fantastic volunteers; each and every one, giving their time on a daily and weekly basis – their contribution to CFINE is invaluable”- says Dave Simmers, CFINE CEO.
