A group of journalists from leading Icelandic media titles will fly into Aberdeen this week on a press visit to the Granite City. With the new direct Icelandair flight route from Reykjavik to Aberdeen, the city has the potential to grow tourism from Iceland as well as Icelandair’s gateways in the United States and Canada. Seven journalists, including specialist travel writers, will arrive on Wednesday March 9 and will stay until Friday. The writers are being hosted by Icelandair, VisitAberdeen and VisitScotland. VisitAberdeen is the organisation responsible for attracting more leisure and business visitors to Aberdeen and the surrounding area.
In a packed itinerary which will give the writers a taste of the North East, the group will stay at Skene House Hotel Suites in the Rosemount area and will enjoy a show round of Macleod House and Trump International Golf Links in Balmedie, followed by a guided city tour of Old Aberdeen. On Wednesday night they will have dinner at Fusion restaurant in the city centre before spending Thursday with a tour of Crathes Castle near Banchory and a tour of Glen Garioch distillery in Oldmeldrum. They’ll spend the night at Meldrum House Country Hotel before departing for Reykjavik on Friday morning.
VisitAberdeen marketing director Peter Medley says: “The new Icelandair route from Reykjavik to Aberdeen is very exciting news for the city, as not only does it open up Aberdeen to Icelandic visitors but also to those from as far afield as North America. Hosting this press trip gives us the chance to showcase Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire as an exciting short break and holiday destination to an entirely new audience.
“The journalists who will be visiting write for a wide range of publications and they will produce features which give their first hand experiences of their visit to Aberdeen. The itinerary which we have planned for this group will show just how much can be packed into a weekend break which takes in city dining, golf, visits to Aberdeen’s historic buildings as well as trips into the surrounding countryside.”
