Vikings to make a splash at Scottish traditional boat festival

The annual Scottish Traditional Boat Festival takes place in Portsoy on 25 and 26 June. This year’s Festival gives a nod to our Northern neighbours as we announce ‘The Vikings are Coming’!

The event will showcase the best in Scotland’s maritime, crafts, food, drink, music and dance.

We are also delighted to add an exciting new feature to this year’s Festival in the form of Valkyrie’s Slide, the UK’s longest, most fun and safest giant water slide which spans a fantastic 100m. This is the furthest north the slide has ventured and is guaranteed to be a popular addition to the Festival programme.

Sponsored by local firm David Urquhart Joiners, the water slide is suitable for all ages from seven years upwards. Find it at Loch Soy Adventure Park throughout Festival weekend. With Valkyries being ‘choosers of the fallen Vikings’ – will you be brave enough to ride the slide?!

Tickets priced £5 each or 3 slides for £10, will be available in advance from the Festival Ticket & Information Office in Portsoy from 18 June and also during Festival weekend at the booth located at Loch Soy.

In addition to the slide, the largest fleet of Segways in the North East also joins us at the Festival for the first time this year. Not about speed, but about control and agility, the Segways will test the skills of Festival visitors from ages seven upwards. Enjoy the challenge – and the beautiful Loch Soy scenery if you can! Tickets will be available at Loch Soy during Festival weekend, £3 for 5 minutes.

With thanks to Active Aberdeenshire, there’s also zorbing, a climbing wall, street sports and a cycle track to satisfy those adrenalin desires.

The very eager can also take part in the 2K Fun Run or Follow The Herring 10K on Sunday morning. Organised by Aberdeenshire Council, registration can be made online now via their website, or on the day up to 09.45am.
