It is now six months since the First Minister announced the creation of an Energy Jobs Taskforce to help support Scotland’s oil and gas industry through the current challenging period. Since January, the group has met monthly to drive forward an ambitious action plan to make sure the right support is reaching the right companies and individuals who are facing redundancy.
In recent months there has been increasing focus on tackling the wider issues facing the industry to introduce or accelerate work that will support best practice in supply chain management , enhance leadership, develop a set of shared principles and values, promote learning from other sectors and help drive the current cost efficiency agenda and members have recently pledged their ongoing commitment to addressing these areas needing improvement. There have also been two job fair events where individuals were able to access a range of support and advice services to assist them, including direct engagement with companies who were looking to recruit.
The challenges facing the industry have not diminished and in the months ahead the Taskforce will deliver in a number of key events and projects on topics such as supply chain management, financial resilience, leadership and messaging for the industry as well as continuing with its extensive network of support for those facing or at risk of facing redundancy.
