The University of Aberdeen has risen six places in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, increasing its score across all criteria assessed.

The University has gone up six spots to 172nd in the world and also remains in the top 30 institutions in the UK.

The THE World University Rankings scored institutions on five different categories – Teaching, Research, Citations, Industry Income and International Outlook and increased its score in every category. Aberdeen was ranked in the top 75% in the world for two of the five categories (Citations and International Outlook).

The results come just weeks after another positive showing for the University in the QS World University Rankings.

Professor Sir Ian Diamond, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Aberdeen, said: “It is fantastic to see our rise in this latest set of THE World University Rankings. This is further evidence that we are continuing to make progress in an increasingly competitive global education environment.

“These results show our reputation continues to improve internationally and that we are offering an individual experience that attracts students and staff from around the world. This result reflects strongly on each one of my colleagues at the University.

“With this strong foundation we will drive forward with the renewed focus of our new Strategic Plan to bring innovative research to market, to provide world class teaching with an emphasis on individual development and employability.”

Phil Baty, editor of the THE World University Rankings said: “The Times Higher Education World University Rankings, now in their 12th year, apply rigorous standards, using tough global benchmarks across all of a global research university’s key missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. The results are trusted by students and their families, academics, university leaders and governments. For University of Aberdeen to make 172 in the world is an outstanding achievement to be celebrated.”
