Lockheed Martin has appointed a well-known expert in Process Safety to drive forward its business in the energy sector.
Ian Travers joins the Information Systems and Global Solutions (IS&GS) area of the security and aerospace company as the new Associate Principal Consultant for Process Safety.
Bringing in-depth knowledge and extensive operational experience of the chemical, energy, oil and gas and utilities markets to the role, Ian will be responsible for growing Lockheed Martin’s Process Safety portfolio to customers globally.
Lockheed Martin works in partnership with industry to offer an integrated risk asset management solution that guides customers through leadership workshops, and gap analyses, which results in a programme plan and roadmap to help them close the gaps and achieve Process Safety excellence.
Ian Travers joins Lockheed Martin following almost three decades working for the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in a number of roles including Deputy Director for Chemical Regulation and Head of Chemical Industries Strategy Unit.
Ian pioneered the use of key performance indicators for Process Safety, publishing the first Guidelines on this subject. He also contributed to Process Safety guidance produced by The UK Energy Institute the American Petroleum Institute (API) and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). He has also advised the US Chemical Safety Board on major incident investigations, shaped recent changes to the way the HSE and the UK Environment agencies jointly regulate major hazards, and developed the HSE’s approach risk assurance in Process Safety by targeting system vulnerability in order to identify early signs of system weaknesses ahead of catastrophic failure.
