The Kirk of St Nicholas in Union Street, Aberdeen, will host the UK oil and gas industry’s annual service of remembrance this Saturday (7 November) from 11am. The service allows the industry to gather to remember those who have died offshore in the past 12 months and through the years.
The service will open with a candle being lit for all who have died offshore since the industry began and another for each of those who have died in the past year.
The core of the service is an Act of Remembrance which includes a ‘roll call’ of those who have died offshore in the past twelve months and through the years followed by a piper’s lament. The lament leads into a minute’s silence allowing family, friends and colleagues to pause and remember.
The names of those who died during the past year will also be on view for the first time in the Book of Remembrance housed by the Kirk.
The music throughout the service will be provided by the Bon Accord Silver Band.
