TWMA sponsorship sends Scottish motocross rider Stateside

TWMA today (Thursday, August 6 2015) announces the sponsorship of Scottish motocross rider Shaun Simpson, enabling him to undertake his first professional race in the USA.

The company will fund Shaun’s travel and participation in the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Motocross Championship race during The 2015 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, Red Bull Unadilla National Weekend, in New York State. Taking place this weekend from August 7-9, Shaun will race a KTM Factory bike supplied by KTM USA, and take on some of the world’s best motocross riders.

Having turned professional in 2005, Shaun Simpson, aged 27 from Fife, is tipped for future success as he travels stateside, having already scooped British and Belgian motocross championship GP wins, as well as several Grand Prix overalls, including last weekend where Shaun gained overall position, pole position and a maiden 1-1 scorecard at the Belgian MXGP.

Commenting on the sponsorship, Davie Garrick, Director at TWMA says: “We have a strong link to the motocross scene here at TWMA, with several of our employees and industry personnel involved in motocross. Many of us also follow the AMA Motocross Championships – a major motocross series in the US, which has been held since 1972 and seen the rise of many motocross icons, so it is really exciting to be supporting a Scottish rider as he checks out the series for the first time.”

Shaun Simpson continues: “I’ve always been curious about the AMA Nationals and it has been a mini dream to head over and give it a try someday. With the support and backing from TWMA it’s turning into reality this year and we are making it happen. Unadilla fell into a gap in the eventing calendar and it looks like a track I will enjoy. We’re all booked up and I’m really looking forward to it. I just want to enjoy the experience, see, and learn a bit and not have any expectations for results.”

The AMA Motocross Championship is sanctioned by the American Motorcyclist Association and managed by MX Sports Pro Racing.
