Donald Trump has spoken to the presidents of both Ukraine and Russia as dialogue begins about a possible end to the conflict.
It comes three years after Russia commenced its invasion of Ukraine.
Now, Trump has revealed he held a 90-minute long phone call with Russian president Vladimir Putin on Wednesday.
And the US president later spoke to President Zelensky and said the Ukraine president indicated he was looking for a deal to end the war.
Posting on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump described his call with Putin as "lengthy and highly productive".
He added: “We agreed to work together, very closely, including visiting each other’s nations.
"We have also agreed to have our respective teams start negotiations immediately, and we will begin by calling President Zelensky, of Ukraine, to inform him of the conversation, something which I will be doing right now.”
The Times reports the negotiating team from the US will be led by Marco Rubio, the secretary of state; John Ratcliffe, the CIA director; Michael Waltz, the national security adviser, and his special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff.
