Touch of Love has been featured in the latest edition of The Link
Magazine, highlighting its dedication to empowering minority ethnic young
people as they navigate the complexities of dual cultural identities.
By
emphasising early intervention, inclusive community programs, and positive
youth development, the charity provides a safe and nurturing environment where
young people can embrace their heritage, build confidence, and thrive in
Scottish society.
The flagship Young Achievers’ Club is at the heart of the
feature, showcasing an impressive success rate in boosting school attendance
and academic performance. Through creative workshops, sports activities, and
mentorship, Touch of Love continues to transform lives across the North-east.
Health and wellbeing are also prioritised, with the charity offering regular physical activities such as football and volleyball, as well as mental health support and nutritional guidance. This holistic approach earned Touch of Love a finalist spot in the Equality, Diversity & Inclusion category at the 2024 National Youth Work Awards.
“Touch of Love firmly believes in the power of early intervention and prevention,” says Jane Akadiri, founder of Touch of Love.
“By engaging young people before challenges escalate, the organisation helps them develop resilience, confidence, and a genuine sense of belonging. These programs create opportunities to lead, excel, and dream big. Being featured in The Link Magazine is a wonderful acknowledgment of this journey, and it is hoped that it will inspire others to join in making lasting, positive change.”
One of the most compelling stories highlighted in the article is Amina’s Journey. Once shy and struggling academically, Amina found her voice through drama workshops and the charity’s basketball team. She now mentors younger members, illustrating the transformative impact of community-driven support.
Beyond academic success, Touch of Love actively promotes wellbeing by integrating sports and nutrition into its initiatives-addressing issues like childhood obesity and mental health head-on. This comprehensive focus has garnered commendations from Aberdeen’s Third Sector Interface, ACVO TSI, and an expanding network of supporters.
As Touch of Love continues to broaden its reach and develop new programs, the charity explore different youth works to achieve its mission of shaping brighter futures for minority ethnic youth in Scotland.
