Deadlock in university street parking talks

People living near Robert Gordon University (RGU) in Aberdeen have said they have reached a deadlock in talks on the future of street parking in the local area.

RGU told Aberdeen City Council in December that it would stop paying towards the cost of a controlled parking zone (CPZ) to stop students taking spaces outside homes of residents in Garthdee.

Newly-published papers said the university suggested a phased withdrawal from the CPZ, but council officers have rejected that proposal.

Britain’s growth forecast slashed on Trump win

Goldman Sachs has slashed its forecast for British and European economic growth next year amid fears Donald Trump will slap taxes on imported goods from around the world.

The investment bank now expects
the UK economy to grow by 1.4pc next year, down from previous forecasts of 1.6pc.

It also predicts the eurozone will expand by 0.8pc, a downgrade from earlier forecasts of 1.1pc.

Asda to cut 475 jobs and reduce hybrid working

Asda has confirmed 475 roles at their head offices in Leeds and Leicestershire will be cut and hybrid working reduced as part of a business restructure.

The retailer said
the move, which would affect less than 10% of its head office staff, would enable it to "simplify structures" amid a challenging market.

In a note to employees on Tuesday, the company's chairman Lord Rose said office attendance would also become compulsory for at least three days per week from January.

Bank of England expected to cut interest rates

Interest rates are widely expected to be cut by the Bank of England on Thursday, in a move closely watched by businesses and consumers.

Most analysts predict that the benchmark rate will fall from its current level of 5% to 4.75% when the decision is announced at 12:00 GMT.

That would make borrowing money cheaper, but is likely to reduce the returns available to savers.
