More retired baby boomers pay income tax than Gen Z
More retired baby boomers are paying income tax than Gen Z workers in a dramatic reversal of the pre-lockdown trend, official figures show.
Data published by the taxman show 5.45m Britons aged over 70 paid income tax in the 2022-23 financial year, compared with 5.23m Britons aged under 30.
It comes as the triple lock drags more pensioners into the tax bracket while a rise in youth worklessness leaves more young people on the sidelines of the jobs market.

Aberdeen's Bar Ninety-Nine closes after 12 years
Aberdeen’s Bar Ninety-Nine has closed its doors for good after announcing its permanent closure.
The mainstay Back Wynd bar and restaurant will called last orders one final time yesterday, having served customers for over 12 years.
Directors of the business have said they were forced to close due to the “significant challenges facing the hospitality sector” in Aberdeen.

New endometriosis pill approved on NHS in England
The first daily pill for treating endometriosis symptoms has been approved for use on the NHS in England - but only for patients who have tried all other options.
Endometriosis affects 1.5 million women in the UK, causing pain and extreme tiredness as a result of tissue similar to the womb lining growing elsewhere in the body.
The new tablet, known as relugolix combination therapy, has been approved by drug assessment body the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and, unlike current injectable treatments, it can be taken at home.
Historic 83-bed Aberdeen Caledonian Hotel up for sale
The historic Aberdeen Caledonian Hotel, a landmark in the heart of Aberdeen, which once hosted royalty and Hollywood legends, is up for sale.
The 83-bedroom hotel, located at Union Terrace and overlooking the £30-million revamped Union Terrace Gardens, has a rich history.
It is currently operating under international branding as Mercure Aberdeen Caledonian Hotel and offers a lounge bar with 40 covers, and a bistro restaurant with 30 covers.

Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos recalls cars after doors open while driving
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s car company has been forced to recall SUVs in the US after customers complained that doors were flying open while driving.
Ineos Automotive has confirmed plans to replace door button parts on 7,000 Grenadier cars, dealing a fresh blow to the billionaire’s business.
According to documents filed to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Ineos said the relevant parts had been assembled without enough grease being applied.
