UK economy rebounds better than expected in May

The UK economy grew faster than expected in May as it rebounded from a weather-affected slowdown the month before, official figures show.

The economy expanded by 0.4%, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said, after seeing no growth in April when wet weather hit output.

The ONS said the economy grew strongly in May, with all sectors expanding.

The question of how to increase growth in the UK's economy was one of the key battlegrounds in the recent general election.

Ballater bed and breakfast named best in Scotland

A Ballater bed and breakfast has been named the best in Scotland.

The Auld Kirk has been recognised in the AA B&B Awards 2024.

The property was originally an early Victorian Scottish Free Church building before conversions in the late 80’s.

The seven-bedroom property has been run by Kevin and Helen Smith for five years.

Tens of thousands of passengers could benefit after Supreme Court rules against British Airways on flight delays

Passengers are entitled to compensation for a flight cancelled due to airline staff illness, the UK's highest court has ruled.

"Tens of thousands" of claims made annually could potentially be affected, the Supreme Court said on Wednesday afternoon.

The case was brought against British Airways (BA) by a couple whose flight was cancelled due to the pilot being sick and the fact no replacement was available.

Safetec UK locks in new offices after Aberdeen west end refurbishment

Aberdeen firm Safetec UK has relocated to bigger premises in the city’s west end from serviced office space in Marischal Square.

The move follows a major refurbishment project at 26 Carden Place.

Safetec UK has taken 2,272sq ft of the building across all three floors.

The business has plans to double its Aberdeen headcount, from about 15 people currently, over the next three years.
