£56 tickets go on sale as Aberdeen bars prepare for May Day

Aberdeen bars and nightclubs have announced prices for their May Day tickets as they prepare for one of the city centre’s busiest days of the year.

This year, May Day (May 1) falls on a Thursday, meaning many will celebrate on Sunday, May 4.

DJ events and all-day parties starting as early as 12pm will take place at venues across the Granite City.

Households to be ‘£400 worse off’ this year as tax raid kicks in

British families will be £400 worse off on average this year as Rachel Reeves’s tax rises combine with soaring bills to hammer living standards, top economists have warned.

The Resolution Foundation think tank said benefits will also increase by less than the cost of living – leading to a “triple blow” to household finances.

It said the long-running freeze to income tax thresholds, introduced under the Conservatives and sustained under Labour, is forcing more workers into paying tax and pushing others into higher brackets.

Ben & Jerry’s founder sparks cold war to wrest back the brand from Unilever

The co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream has launched a bid to wrestle the brand back from Unilever after an uneasy 25-year corporate marriage.

Ben Cohen, 74, founded the eponymous company with his childhood friend Jerry Greenfield, 74, in a petrol station in Vermont in 1978, and sold it to the FTSE 100 consumer goods giant in 2000.

He is now seeking investors to join his attempt to regain ownership as the Anglo-Dutch parent group prepares to spin off its ice cream assets into a separate company with a primary listing in Amsterdam.
