Employees from a North-east recruitment firm have raised a generous total of £4000 for the firm’s charity of the year.
Team Genesis, made up of staff from Genesis Personnel, carried out various fundraising activities throughout the year in aid of the UK’s leading children’s cancer charity, CLIC Sargent.
With an original target of £1500, the team joined together at the start of the year to plan and host performances, undertake skydives, put on bake sales, take part in Santa’s gift appeal and donate soft toys and Easter eggs to a children’s hospital, all for a worthy charitable cause.
Team Genesis, which is based in the recruitment firm’s Aberdeen and Peterhead offices, kick-started the charitable activities in March, visiting the Royal Aberdeen Children’s hospital, which is supported by CLIC Sargent, to hand deliver 500 Easter eggs and soft toys to the children and teenagers. This was shortly followed by Wig Wednesday, an event held in May that encouraged team members to sport a wacky wig at work, as well as hosting a quiz and bake sale in aid of the children’s charity.
During the summer months, Team Genesis also arranged a ‘One Night Only’ performance, held in Peterhead Community Theatre, which featured local singers from Aberdeen and Peterhead, as well as a tap dance routine and a Doric sketch. The sell-out night raised a total of £1500 for CLIC Sargent, achieving the firm’s original target at mid-year.
By October, Team Genesis smashed this, with three members - Alasdair Corbett, Steph Wemyss and Stephanie Gourley - taking part in a brave skydive challenge that raised an additional £2460 through the firm’s Just Giving page.
Alasdair Corbett, member of Team Genesis and creative designer at Genesis Personnel, said: “The skydive was truly amazing, such a surreal experience – I can’t quite believe we did it. It was possibly the most incredible thing I have ever done and being able to help CLIC Sargent by taking part in this is overwhelming, it really is a fantastic cause and one we are all delighted to support.”
Wendy Marr, managing director of Genesis Personnel, said: “CLIC Sargent is a charity close to our hearts and I’m ecstatic that we have such talented people in the business, who are able to put their creative minds together and use their amazing skills to raise money for the charity. We have all thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the fundraising activities and I’m very proud that Team Genesis has managed to raise this amount for such a worthwhile cause.”
To end the year in a festive manner, Team Genesis once again visited the Royal Aberdeen Children’s hospital, donating a few hundred gifts to the children as part of this year’s Christmas Gift Appeal.
CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, and their families. It provides clinical, practical, financial and emotional support to help them cope with cancer and get the most out of life.
