Aberdeen-based TCD Architects has had plans approved to begin works on a challenging project in the city’s Rosemount area.
The firm, founded in 1963, has designed a house extension to a unique B-Listed inverted crescent-set property on Argyll Crescent. This is the first successful near full width application for such a scheme on that particular street.
The concave nature to the rear of the crescent and Historic Environment Scotland’s policy of not obscuring the full extent of the existing rear elevation in regards to listed buildings meant that an innovative design was required to meet the aspirations and requirements of the homeowner.
TCD’s director Steve Lawrence’s design involves detaching the extension visually by introducing a glazed link which enabled the integrity of the existing rear facade to be maintained and viewed in a successful way.
Steve said: “These are the projects we relish at TCD as their complexities due to listed-building regulations make the design process more challenging.
“The completed build will add a spacious area to the property while also retaining the integrity and character of the grade B listed property.”
Works on the Argyll Crescent project are due to get underway around August (2016).
