TCD Architects continues to nurture talent of tomorrow with double appointment

An award-winning Aberdeen architecture practice has made a double appointment as it continues to secure major new contracts and fulfil its commitment to nurturing new talent.

TCD Architects, based on Alford Place in the city’s West End has appointed Mark Lane, 25, as an architectural assistant and Fiona Logie, 21, as a student architectural assistant.

Mark is working toward attaining the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Part 3 qualification in order to attain chartered status as an architect.

Fiona is currently studying for her RIBA Part 1 qualification and is taking a year out from her degree at Robert Gordon University to gain the necessary workplace experience required for the award.

Both are working on a number of high-profile projects since joining the practice, with Mark heavily involved in the design of a new depot for Aberdeenshire Council well as industrial facilities for a major subsea firm, while Fiona is working on a number of residential and commercial projects.

Steven Walker, associate director at TCD Architects, said: “Mark and Fiona are fantastic additions to the team and both bring with them a unique set of skills which will help the practice continue to grow into new sectors.

“Mark has many years’ experience of working in the oil and gas industry, while Fiona has recently completed her bachelor’s degree and has is enjoying putting what she has learned at university to use.”

TCD Architects also regularly helps young architects like Fiona gain the necessary workplace experience required for their RIBA qualifications and also received a commendation from Aberdeenshire Council for taking on work experience pupils from schools across the region.

Steven added: “Training to be an architect is a life-long commitment and you never stop acquiring new skills, so we are always happy to take in enthusiastic young people who are considering joining the profession so they know what will be expected of them and to show what a working week in a busy practice is really like.”

TCD has in recent months secured a succession of major contract wins. They include a commission for a new landmark building on the site of the fire-ravaged Jimmy Chung's restaurant at Aberdeen beach, a planned 600 dwelling house residential and commercial development with associated infrastructure to the east of Kintore, and major work on depot facilities throughout the north-east of Scotland.

TCD Architects, founded in 1963, has offices at Alford Place in the centre of Aberdeen.
