Aberdeen Jazz Festival hosted an incredible show at Bon Accord Care’s Margaret Clyne Court for Aberdeen Jazz Festival 2025!

A huge thank you to the Aberdeen Jazz Festival, Aberdeen City Council and everyone involved in organising the incredible event at Margaret Clyne Court on Friday 21st March!

Local legends and seasoned duo Marisha and Jim Addison put on a fantastic performance for the residents of multiple services, Margaret Clyne Court, Janesfield Manor and Mark Bush Court.

Songs performed were a variety of Scottish, Jazz and Country music. The top nostalgic musical hits from the event included ‘You are my sunshine’ and ‘Copacabana’ in which everyone enjoyed a sing-along and dance to!

With people smiling all around, singing along and dancing during the event, feedback from attendees was that this event was very enjoyable afternoon. The event also allowing tenants from the three different complexes to have a chance to meet new and old acquaintances.

In between her performance, singer Marisha also spoke about the old music venues and concerts that happened in Aberdeen which had all the residents talking.

Melodie Fraser, Aberdeen Jazz Festival Community Project Lead, who helped make the event happen said: “The concert at Margaret Clyne Court was the 4th in a series of concerts provided for Aberdeen Sheltered Housing Association (ASHA) by Aberdeen Jazz Festival. Each year a concert is held in a different sheltered housing complex to allow tenants who live there to attend, but also for tenants from other sheltered housing to travel to the venue. The idea is that some of the tenants would not be able to attend the festival itself, due to those concerts being held in crowded places, without the vital support provided by staff, so this is a safe way for tenants to have access to live music.

I am the Community Lead of the Jazz Festival, so it's my job to select appropriate live acts for community settings, in this case based on feedback we've had from the ASHA committee and also from those attending the various concerts. The first year featured a Latin Jazz trio, the second year featured a Cuban Salsa band and the 3rd year featured a Beatles and 60s/70s guitar, double bass and vocal trio.

Carol Hannaford has provided unwavering support to ensure that these events are organised each year, with the help of Louise Torrance, Lee Mair and the various centre staff: all of whom have been enthusiastic and helpful.

We hope that with this partnership, we will continue to provide successful events in ASHA buildings in the coming years."

Overall, this event was a fantastic treat to end the week, with residents and guests alike enjoying not only the positive energy within the room but the stunning views overlooking Aberdeen from Margaret Clyne Court.

The Aberdeen Jazz Festival at Margaret Clyne Court truly captured the meaning of community and the importance of music and memories. A huge thank you once again to Aberdeen Jazz Festival, Aberdeen City Council, ASHA, Marisha and Jim Addison and everyone who helped make this event come to life! Bon Accord Care look forward to continuing this partnership and working on future projects together.
