A team from Subsea 7 has scooped the top prize in the seventh annual oil and gas ACTIVE Cup Challenge.
Winners Nicola Cowe, Paul Nicoll, Olav Vennemann, Robert Dicken, Neil Dunsmore and Jennifer Fulton – otherwise known as The Subsea 6 - beat stiff competition from eight other teams from a range of Aberdeen-based energy companies including Petrofac, Rever Offshore UK Limited, TechnipFMC, Worley, Wood, and Stork Technical Services UK.
Second place (Gold Award) was presented to Team Scot of Stork Technical Services UK, while Worley’s The Art of Wor-ley team won the Silver Award. The Most Improved Award went to the Rever Revellers.
Organised by the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB), the simulated construction project is run in collaboration with Cranfield School of Management as part of a wider project management training initiative within the engineering construction industry.
The teams must manage a fixed price construction project from inception to completion, financed by negotiated loan capital, on behalf of an external client, with the winners judged to be the one making the most profit against their initial bid price. There are significant opportunities for teams to engage in the negotiations of claims for client-driven scope changes, and in the resolution of disputes. The exercise is highly time-pressured.
Mitch Crichton, Scotland North ECITB regional chair, congratulated all the teams on their success in what was a very competitive field.
He said: “The ACTIVE Cup programme shows how industry can come together to ensure best practice approaches in key areas like project management are widely understood and undertaken. The ECITB is proud to support this flagship competition and the many other project management development activities that promote skills development, knowledge sharing and collaborative working within the sector.”
