Strong trading day at Thainstone’s plant, machinery and equipment sale

A plant, machinery and equipment sale – with 83% of the 3,554 lots sold – attracted more than 2,000 bidders, including a variety of buyers from across the UK and Ireland flocking to Thainstone Centre at the weekend.

The online bidding system, i-bidder.com, also featured strongly within the plant, vehicles and lorries sections with online buyers from throughout the UK and Europe showing interest.

The top price for the day came from a Komatsu PC290 digger which sold for £42,000; this was followed by a Moxy 30T dump truck which was purchased for £30,000. The 4x4 section was led by a Mitsubishi L200 Double Cab that sold for £12,000; in the Heavy Commercial’s category a Mercedes Benz Tipper sold for £21,000; while the Trailer’s Caravans and Containers category was topped by a Swift Conqueror caravan which achieved £4,000.

Mark Barrack, head of specialist auctions at ANM Group, said: “The auction continues to grow in popularity amongst buyers and sellers with a steady increase in entries and lots sold on the day. Due to favourable currency exchange rates, our online bidding system - i-bidder - has experienced a surge in activity coming from Europe, as well as an increased number of buyers from Ireland.

“Our unique position as a cooperative means we work hard for both the buyer and the seller which is reflected in the large number of lots sold. Our clients also benefit by receiving genuine value through the competitive price discovery method implemented by our highly experienced team of auctioneers on a consistent basis.”

The sale of farm-consigned machinery and implements was also notable. A 20ft Herbst cattle trailer sold for £5,300; a Claas Volto tedder realised £5,000; and a Kinbroom flat trailer achieved £3,300.

Alan Hutcheon, auctions operations manager at Aberdeen and Northern Marts, said: “I am pleased with the team’s efforts throughout the day and happy with the overall results we have achieved. The auction experienced a strong trade with lots selling quickly as buyers benefited from a diverse range of good quality of plant, machinery and equipment available.”

The next plant, machinery and equipment sale – which takes place eight times a year – is scheduled for Saturday, May 21 from 9am at Thainstone Centre, Inverurie and consignors are encouraged to advise of their entries as soon as possible in order to receive maximum exposure to potential buyers.
