Stronachs LLP take fundraising for CLAN up a gear at Ride the North

A group of cycling enthusiasts from Stronachs LLP survived torrential rain and bike malfunctions to endure the 175 mile cycle challenge, Ride the North and raise more than £4,500 for CLAN.

The Stronachs team took on the two-day route across the Grampian Highlands from August 27 to 28 to raise funds for CLAN, the full service law firm’s nominated charity for 2016.

The challenging route was further complicated by one team member’s bike letting him down on the first day – leaving him to complete the final 20 miles with three gears, and a replacement had to be hired for day two; and another’s saddle becoming detached on the home straight.

The weather also caused concern with heavy rain creating difficulties for the riders, with one rest stop on the route flooding within a number of minutes.

Bobby McDonald, partner at Stronachs and head of the firm’s dispute resolution team is one of the founding members of the cycling group and has taken part in Ride the North every year.

He said: “This year’s Ride the North was certainly a challenging one for us but it was a great team-building experience, and I’m delighted that everyone finished the event raising such an amazing amount of money for CLAN along the way.

“We’d like to thank everyone who took the time to sponsor us and contribute to this fantastic cause, and all the Stronachs staff, friends and family who came along to support us throughout the event.”

Stronachs have arranged a number of events for CLAN this year, including a ladies’ afternoon tea party which raised more than £10,000 for the charity in a matter of hours.

CLAN provides emotional and practical support to people affected by cancer. Services are freely offered to all from pre-diagnosis and diagnosis through treatment and beyond, at 11 support and wellbeing centres located across north-east Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland.
