Step Change in Safety, the member-led safety organisation, has announced a new collaboration with Empirisys, the specialist process safety and data science company.
The partnership will bring significant advancements to Step Change in Safety’s industry-leading Electronic Observation System (E-Obs) with the introduction of ‘Boost’, an artificial intelligence (AI) solution to enhance safety observations across the energy industry.
Originally launched five years ago in November 2019, E-Obs is the existing electronic observation card system which is free to all Step Change in Safety members. Designed for the energy workforce, E-Obs enables users to record safety concerns and highlight examples of good safety practices. The system is instrumental in facilitating feedback and communication on safety within companies and across the industry. It allows installation operators, contracting companies, and individual workers to track safety issues and receive direct feedback on their submissions.
The platform complements Step Change in Safety’s existing Safe Working Essentials – a suite of standardised and simplified tools that aim to streamline work processes by making them simpler, more engaging and ultimately helping to improve safety. By leveraging E-Obs, Step Change in Safety can conduct industry-wide trend analysis, allowing for tailored responses to specific challenges across the sector.
The new premium ‘Boost’ feature, developed by Empirisys, is a powerful addition to the E-Obs platform. Boost is a solution developed by Empirisys. It combines its extensive data science and high-risk industry expertise to help you unlock the full potential of your observation data. Boost uses artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced analytics to:
- Uncover hidden trends and improve data quality using smart suggestions.
- Save time with automated action recommendations tailored to your observations.
- Detect weak signals faster through the advanced analytics dashboard, reducing the need for manual reporting and analysis.
‘Boost’ will be available as a premium add-on to the existing E-Obs system, offering additional capabilities for users who seek to maximise the impact of their safety observations.
Step Change in Safety and Empirisys are offering users the opportunity to trial E-Obs Boost, applying their own data to experience its full potential.
Craig Wiggins, CEO of Step Change in Safety, says: “Our mission is to reduce incident and injury in the energy industry and member collaboration is fundamental to achieving this. We have endorsed ‘Boost’ to enhance our core E-Obs product by offering AI technology to improve both process and personal safety. This partnership and system development marks a significant step in making the energy industry safer by turning individual safety observations into collectively compelling automated insights.”
Gus Carroll, CEO and co-founder of Empirisys added: “We’re delighted to be in partnership with Step Change in Safety as we take this significant step towards making the energy industry a safer environment to work in. Our team of data scientists have developed ‘Boost’ to make gathering, analysing and actioning observations more straightforward. The advanced analysis will identify trends and suggest corrective actions to decrease the chances of opportunities being missed and systematically improve safety.”
