The UK government has revealed plans to make the planning process simpler for building mini nuclear power stations in England and Wales.
The move is designed to boost economic growth, with the creation of thousands of highly skilled jobs, and push the UK up a gear in the race for clean, secure and affordable energy.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, the BBC reports, said the UK had been "left behind" because it had not buiilt a nuclear power station for "decades".
He added that the country's energy security had been "held hostage" by Vladimir Putin with the Russian President able to send prices soaring on a "whim".
Starmer said: "I'm putting an end to it - changing the rules to back the builders of this nation, and saying no to the blockers who have strangled our chances of cheaper energy, growth and jobs for far too long."
