North-east enterprises are being invited to an event in Aberdeen to hear about the business benefit of working with a postgraduate student.

Organised by Talent Exchange, a unique work experience scheme for the region’s small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), the event will focus on the benefits that a Robert Gordon University (RGU) postgraduate student can offer to a business through research and consultancy projects in a wide range of areas.

The free lunchtime event, which is taking place on Wednesday, March 16 at the KMD Business & Conference Centre, will feature a number of speakers including a representative from a business which has engaged with Talent Exchange and a student, who will both share their perspectives.

Businesses will also find out more about the wide variety of flexible research and consultancy opportunities which postgraduate students are seeking including projects with a focus on marketing, analysis, cost modelling, communications, project management, HR policies and procedures, computer systems analysis and network security.

Yvonne Cook, Project Manager for Talent Exchange who is based at RGU, says: “We’ve secured a huge amount of work experience opportunities since our launch in 2014 and consistently businesses tell us that they have benefitted from the strategic view, fresh thinking and specialist skills of a postgraduate student.

“In challenging times, a postgraduate student could bring new ideas to help a business diversify or improve efficiency as it looks to adapt to the current marketplace.

“The event is an opportunity for organisations to learn more about Talent Exchange and consider if a postgraduate student could help with a business challenge by putting their learning into action, supplementing existing resources or providing specialist knowledge or expertise.”

The initiative, which is partnering with SCDI, FSB Scotland and the Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce, is aimed at organisations looking for help with a specific business challenge such as events, design, photography, corporate social responsibility policy, IT solutions or a marketing strategy.

Established with funding from the Scottish Funding Council, Talent Exchange is designed to offer flexible ways of working with a business to meet its need including one-off challenges, short-term projects and placements of varying lengths.

The Talent Exchange: Consultancy Project event, which includes an informal networking opportunity over a buffet lunch, will run from 12noon to 2pm at the KMD Business & Conference Centre in Altens.
