Artwork which has been created by a group of budding artists supported by Scottish social care charity, Cornerstone, will go under the hammer tomorrow (April 21) at the organisation’s Annual Dinner at the Ardoe House Hotel in Aberdeen.
The works were designed at the Cornerstone Connects service in Galashiels and all of the money raised at the dinner will go directly towards developing similar services across Aberdeen City and throughout Scotland. Cornerstone Connects provides a wide range of stimulating and inclusive activities for people with dementia, disabilities and other complex support needs, enabling them to learn new skills, build lasting friendships and become involved with the local community.
It is hoped the eye-catching art will attract high bids at the 13th Annual Dinner, which has raised more than £500,000 since the first event in 2004, with last year’s raising an impressive £36,000.
Two of the pieces will be sold in the silent auction, which is open now, and the final piece will be auctioned off during the course of the evening.
Among the other lots to be auctioned off are two drawings by renowned Scottish hyperrealist artist, Paul Cadden, a made to measure kilt, a luxury break for two, a designer Mulberry bag and many more.
This year’s dinner is being sponsored by BP and CNR International.
Lisa Duthie, Cornerstone’s Director of Fundraising, said: “These works of art which have been created at our Galashiels service are testament to what talent we have and how Cornerstone Connects allows the people we support to flourish when they are given the opportunity.
“We are extremely grateful to BP and CNR International for their continued support which has always enabled us to make this event a huge success and allowed us to raise significant amounts of money to continue our valuable work.
“The money raised from this year’s dinner will go a long way in supporting the development of Cornerstone Connects, which will benefit many individuals across the North-east.”
The evening includes a champagne reception, three course meal, fundraising auction and entertainment by classical-crossover soprano Ciara Harvie, local singer Paul Black and the topical musical comedy duo, Vic Rodrick and Annie Gunner Logan, who specialise in political parody.
The silent auction is now open and you can view all the auction lots and place your bids at www.galabid.com/cstone. You can also view all the live auction items here and place a telephone bid on the evening of the dinner.
Anyone wishing to register to place a telephone bid for our live auction should contact the Fundraising Team on 01224 256 023 or email louise.mackay@cornerstone.org.uk.
