Somebody Cares SCIO has provided critical support to individuals and families across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire during a year marked by significant economic challenges.
In the year ending March 31st, 2024, the charity:
• Furnished 813 homes for clients of over 80 agencies such as local councils
• Provided 176,556 meals to those in critical need
• Supported over 400 refugee and asylum seekers with essential items and housing assistance
• Distributed comprehensive Christmas provisions, including 12-day food parcels and gifts for children and families
The charity has also undergone important leadership changes, with founders Brian and Jenny Taylor stepping down as trustees. Three new trustees - Emma Morton, Onyinye Ibeke, and Justina Elsidodi - have been appointed to guide the organisation's future. Additionally, Aberdeen-based entrepreneur, Yekemi Otaru was appointed as CEO last November after three months as Interim.
"As economic pressures persist, we remain committed to restoring dignity and providing hope to our community's most vulnerable members," said Gordon Cowan, current trustee.
Somebody Cares continues to innovate in its support, working closely with local organisations and maintaining multiple income streams through charity shops and donated goods.
