Social enterprise, Scarf - delivering services across the north east of Scotland - is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its foundation by hosting a barbecue in their garden area, recently renovated by a team of young people from the Prince’s Trust Team Programme.

All Scarf staff and members of the board have been invited to the event in the unique garden space in the harbour area.

On the day, staff will be asked for their input to suggest and shape new services for Scarf and expand existing ones.

There will also be the launch of the ‘Thirty 4 Thirty’ staff challenge programme – providing 30 fun and engaging tasks for staff to tackle over 30 days – which Scarf hopes to roll out to other organisations across the third sector.

Thane Lawrie, Chief Executive at Scarf, said: "The theme for the day will be engagement. We want to bring all staff together to celebrate the fine work they do to ensure Scarf is thriving in its thirtieth year; but we also want to involve our talented team in developing the organisation’s services and establishing new offerings in the future. Staff involvement is part of our culture, and we hope that the Thirty 4 Thirty programme strengthens that, and encourages other organisations do the same."

Scarf was founded in 1985 as Save Cash And Reduce Fuel and since then it has built a reputation as a major frontline energy advice service provider.

Last year alone Scarf has helped reduce the energy spend of 14,609 individuals and 2,853 households across the north east, through their Home Energy Scotland and Home Energy Advice Team services respectively.

Ed Rennie, Chairman of Scarf, said: "It is a huge privilege for me to have been a Board member and more recently, Chairman of Scarf, primarily for two reasons; firstly the positive impact that we have made on people’s lives and the ever-increasing need for us to do so and secondly, to work alongside some of the most committed and passionate staff and Board members that I have ever experienced."

Scarf has recently been accredited with Investors In People, Investors In Young People, Scottish Living Wage and Best Companies two-star awards.

This year, Scarf was named as one of the 100 best not-for profit organisations to work for in the UK, rising 12 places from the 2014 listings to 35, and is the only organisation in the North-east to make the list.
