Stephen Flynn is set to stand for Aberdeen South and North Kincardine at the next Holyrood election - despite already being a city MP, The Press and Journal reports.
The SNP Westminster leader made the revelation during an exclusive interview with the P&J.
And Mr Flynn told AGCC he would fight for a fair energy transition for the North-east at Holyrood as well as Westminster.
He said: "I’ve not been shy in arguing for an energy transition that meets the needs and aspirations of workers, businesses and the economy here in Aberdeen, and I fully intend to take that very same message to Holyrood.
“I don’t think anyone can doubt that under the leadership of John Swinney and Kate Forbes the Government has rebuilt relations with business and I hope I can contribute to furthering those in the years to come.”
Mr Flynn submitted his application to the party HQ and revealed he plans to remain an MP for Aberdeen South until the next general election in spite of his bid to win a Holyrood seat.
It comes as former first ministers Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf also announced they plan to stand as SNP candidates in the 2026 election.
