Smoke and Soul is thrilled to announce the launch of a new gastro-style weekend offering, featuring a showstopping Sunday roast, at their second Aberdeen location, ‘The Old Smiddy.’

This exciting new concept will debut on August 3, with bookings now open on their website.

Since opening ‘The Old Smiddy’ in February 2024 for weekday lunch service, the team has been delighting customers with the same casual, high-quality street food that made their city centre venue, ‘The Firepit,’ a local favourite. Known for their signature slow-smoked meats and hearty dishes like loaded fries, mac & cheese, smash burgers, and sandwiches, Smoke and Soul is now set to elevate their culinary offerings.

Starting early August, ‘The Old Smiddy’ will extend its hours and transform its menu for weekend service. Co-owner Lindsay Jackson explains: “Our Monday to Friday lunch service from 11am to 2pm remains unchanged. However, from 4pm on Fridays through the weekend, we’re introducing a more sophisticated dining experience in our relaxed, rustic smokehouse setting. We’re incredibly excited about this new chapter!”

Smoke and Soul began as street food vendors in North-east Scotland, gaining a reputation for their BBQ comfort food and casual cuisine. As they celebrate its seventh year, the owners are eager to showcase their culinary skills with more complex and artfully plated dishes.

Executive chef and co-owner Corey Milne shared his vision for the new direction, stating: “I’ve been wanting to bring some changes to our business for a while. We’ve experimented with upscale offerings at our events over the past few years, and it’s time to make these a regular feature. While we’ve excelled in casual food since our street food days in 2017, I’m passionate about experimenting with flavours, techniques, and presentation. Our new weekend menu at The Old Smiddy will reflect this passion.”

In preparation for this transition, Smoke and Soul has promoted existing team members and created new job opportunities. Davidlee Sutherland, the newly appointed kitchens operations manager, is eager to embrace the challenge.

“Bridge of Don is in need of a fresh restaurant offering and quality Sunday roast that isn’t from a chain restaurant, and our smokehouse is the perfect venue for it, he said.

"With its intimate setting, The Old Smiddy will be ideal for date nights and special occasions. Due to limited seating, reservations are essential to ensure no one is disappointed.”

When asked about the motivation behind this change, Lindsay Jackson said: “It’s time to evolve. While street food has been a growing trend, we feel the market in Aberdeen is becoming saturated. With two venues, we have the opportunity to grow as a team and a business. Our past ticketed events have shown us that we can excel in different dining styles, and the positive feedback from our customers has given us the confidence to expand our offerings. Our goal has always been to create high-quality food that people love, and this new venture will continue that mission.”

Corey Milne concluded: “Our passion for cooking started as a hobby and has grown into this business. By allowing ourselves to evolve, we keep that fire alive and continue doing what we love. We can’t wait to share this new dining experience with our community.”

The much anticipated new menu will be advertised in the coming days across the Smoke and Soul socials. Reservations for The Old Smiddy’s weekend offering are now live and can be made here: https://www.smokeandsoul.co.uk/pages/bookings
