More than 40 scarecrows have taken over the gardens of some of the residents and businesses of the north-east’s newest town.
The annual Chapelton Scarecrow Festival, which runs until the end of August, has more than 40 imaginative and wonderful Scotland-themed designs on show.
Now in its fifth year, the festival has become a firm fixture in the Chapelton calendar, raising thousands of pounds for local groups and charities.
Organiser and resident Kae Dows said that the Scarecrow Festival is a great way for the whole family to explore the town.
“This year’s ‘Scotland’ theme has fired the imaginations of everyone and there are lots of very exciting creations by the talented residents,” she said.
“Everyone has spent months working on their scarecrows and it’s lovely to see so many visitors, young and old, enjoying the fun around our lovely town. As with every other year, we are fundraising for local charities.
“Donation points are situated throughout the town, including in Brae café and the three winning scarecrows will be awarded a sum of the donations for the charity of their choice.”
As well as the scarecrows, there are two play parks for the children, including Patey Park, a natural playground, and plenty of refreshments available with Slate and Grain brasserie and Brae café, as well as an ice cream shop at The Boxes in the centre of Chapelton. Parking is available in the town centre.
