More than three quarters of Scottish voters are opposed to increasing immigration in the country, a new poll has revealed.

The Norstat survey, carried out for The Times, revealed 77% of Scots voters want immigration to either decrease or continue at current levels.

Just 23% said they would like to see an increase in immigration, with 34% against such a move.

The data shows support for reduced immigration is strongest among backers of Reform UK, and people over the age of 35.

SNP and Lib Dem voters supported a rise in immigration and not a reduction.

The statistics come as the SNP seeks to take control of migration policies allowing the Scottish government to “build asylum and immigration systems geared to meet Scotland’s needs and founded on fairness and human rights”.
