Last Wednesday (June 17 2015), Global Port Services (Scotland) Ltd’s new Aberdeen facility was opened by Scotland’s First Minister, the Rt Hon Nicola Sturgeon MSP.
Global Port Services (Scotland) Ltd, part of the highly successful Global Energy Group celebrated the opening of its new facility with a visit from Scotland’s First Minister. Ms Sturgeon toured the brand new 16,000 sqft facility at Aberdeen Energy Park with Global Energy Group Chairman Roy MacGregor, whilst in Aberdeen for the Oil & Gas UK Conference.
Global Port Services currently has 81 full-time employees and forms part of the Group’s Marine & Logistics portfolio, which includes the Nigg Energy Park and other marine services businesses, both in Aberdeen, further north and overseas.
With depots already set up in Invergordon and Nigg Energy Park; supporting the oil and gas, renewables and local construction and industrial sectors, the new facility forms part of the Global Port Services continued growth strategy to become the leading supplier of heavy mobile cranes in the UK, with lifting capacity ranging from 50 to 1,000 tonnes.
The First Minister said:
“I am delighted to open this new facility for Global Port Services at Aberdeen Energy Park. This impressive new operation has expanded as a result of demand from the sector and I know the team here have plans for further expansion in the future. It is also further evidence of the continued strength of our world-leading oil and gas supply chain. As a country that boasts a strong engineering and manufacturing skills base which is recognised globally across the oil and gas industry, we have a clear competitive advantage.
“Aberdeen and the surrounding areas are a key part of Scotland’s economy and with the right support and investment we can ensure that Aberdeen remains the energy capital of Europe for the next 50 years.”
Roy MacGregor added:
“We are delighted to welcome the First Minister to our new facility to witness first-hand the type of work we do here. Global Energy Group has invested more than £20 million in new mobile heavy cranes and equipment since starting the business just over a year ago. We now operate a modern fleet of mobile heavy cranes, boasting some of the most technologically advanced cranes in the industry.
“As a Group we are committed to investing in our people, as well as our facilities and equipment. Since Global Energy was established in 2005 we have supported around 600 candidates through a skills development programme to bridge the industry skills gap, by providing training in the core fabrication disciplines of welding, pipefitting and plating skills.
“We remain committed to the Modern Apprenticeship programme, recently recruiting a vehicle maintenance and repair mechanic apprentice for Global Port Services. This candidate is part of a team of five who maintain the cranes and vehicles at the company. We are actively looking to bring more talent into the organisation as we continue to grow and develop in the market.”
Global Port Services has moved from the Nord Centre and had signed a 10-year lease for the brand new 16,000sqft (1,486sqm) building at Claymore Avenue at Aberdeen Energy Park. The building, owned by Moorfield Real Estate Fund III (MREFIII), was completed last year and includes 12,000sqft of warehouse space, 4,000sqft office accommodation, along with secure yardage and car parking.
Speaking on behalf of the parks’ owner, Moorfield Real Estate Fund III, Fiona Alsop, Park’s Director and Associate Director of Bilfinger GVA said:
“This deal is great news for the park and for the Aberdeen economy in general. Our confidence in the quality product offering at Aberdeen Energy Park has been rewarded with this letting.
