Santa Claus will be enlisting the help of Aberdeen Science Centre’s visitors to solve a festive mystery this December, as part of the centre's annual Science with Santa workshop.

Taking place on Saturday, December 21, the upcoming party event will see children aged 5-12 step into the curly-toed shoes of Santa’s favourite helpers during a chemistry-focused workshop and Christmas-themed scavenger hunt.

Booking is now open for the Science with Santa event, which is sponsored by commercial cleaning company Tidy Green Clean, marking the third consecutive year of collaboration on the festive celebration.

Offering an affordable and fun day out in the run up to Christmas Day, the event will encourage children to discover more about chemical reactions in the hands-on Christmas Chemistry Workshop. Set in the North Pole Bakery, the activity will involve children using scientific deduction to identify ingredients in jars as they try to save Santa’s cookies from crumbling.

A scavenger hunt will then take visitors to every corner of Aberdeen Science Centre’s exhibition space, following a series of Christmassy clues and participating in a variety of festive activities along the way.

Children will also be able to meet Santa himself at the centre, where he will be available for photo opportunities and will give each boy and girl that he meets a small gift as an early Christmas present.

Standard admission for a child to the event will cost £18.95, and £13.95 per additional child. Aberdeen Science Centre STEM Passport holders will receive discounted entry at £10 per child.

This includes each of the festive activities, a Christmas gift and photo with Santa Claus, and admission for up to two accompanying adults. Following the party, families are welcome to further explore the centre’s exhibition space and try out its many exhibits, including its brand new interactive digital experience, The Wall.

Places at the Science with Santa experience will be limited, so parents are encouraged to book ahead to avoid disappointment.

Elaine Holland, head of operations and deputy CEO at Aberdeen Science Centre, said: “Science with Santa is one of our favourite times of the year, as Father Christmas and his merry band of elves descends on our centre to bring about festive joy.

“This year, visitors to our centre on Saturday, December 21 will be able to practice their sleuthing skills alongside Santa’s elves as they solve a Christmas-themed mystery in the North Pole Bakery, followed by a scavenger hunt and the opportunity to meet Santa himself. Our annual Science with Santa event offers a fun and affordable way to get children into the Christmas spirit as they take part in a holiday experience unlike any other.

“We are also honoured to continue our collaboration on Science with Santa with Tidy Green Clean, as headline sponsor of the event, whose support allows us to bring science and magic together each Christmas in this very special celebration.”

Igors Krumins, regional director for Tidy Green Clean North, said: “We’re thrilled to be sponsoring the 'Science with Santa' event once again. It’s a fantastic way to celebrate the holidays while encouraging young minds to explore the wonders of science.
