Nicole Brown is 11 years old and attends Primary 7 of Airyhall school. She had an idea that she wanted to create a baking book to sell in her school to raise funds for Alzheimer Scotland.
She loves baking and is always baking at the weekends.
She came up with the idea that the proceeds from the book would go to Dementia. Her Grannie (spelt this way by Nicole), Anna Kilpatrick, has dementia so she thought that this would be a good charity to give the monies to.
Nicole says, “I was too young to fully remember what my Grannie was like before she had dementia, but what I do remember of her was she was a lovely, kind, caring and fun Grannie. Every birthday she would make me a birthday card and she loved to bake and do arts and crafts with me. When we went to visit my Grannie and Papa, she would stop whatever she was doing to play with me and my brother,
Now that she has dementia, I’ve noticed a lot of changes in my Grannie. She forgets a lot of things and sometimes she is happy but sometimes she is sad. She can get frustrated and forgets how to do some things eg. She tries to use her knife to eat at times. I love my Grannie very much and just wish there was a cure for dementia.”
