Russia and Ukraine have launched damaging airstrikes on each other following Vladimir Putin's phone call with Donald Trump where he agreed to a ceasefire on energy infrastructure.
The Russian president rejected the US leader's proposal for a full 30-day ceasefire during their 90-minute call on Tuesday, claiming it would only work if Ukraine's allies stopped giving military assistance.
Hours after the conversation between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a statement saying that Ukraine was under a Russian attack which damaged "civilian infrastructure", including a hospital in Sumy.
Boris Pistorius, Germany’s defence minister, said attacks on civilian infrastructure had “not eased at all in the first night after this supposedly ground-breaking, great phone call."
"Putin is playing a game here and I'm sure that the American president won't be able to sit and watch for much longer," he added.
Fresh peace talks will be held on Sunday in Saudi Arabia which will be led by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security adviser Mike Waltz.
