Hazlehead Park was invaded by hundreds of pirates on Saturday, September 29, when runners of all ages turned out for the Dandara 5k and family fun day, raising almost £4,000 of loot for the Friends of Hazlehead charity.
Now in its fifth year, money raised by the Dandara 5k has contributed to the creation of memory paths, regeneration of the Queen Mother Rose Garden and upgrades to the much-loved Pet’s Corner at the popular Park.
The day featured a 5k, 2k and 1k children’s races, and 600m fun run as well as bouncy castles and face painting. Six-year-old twins Eilidh and Una Robertson got into the spirit of the theme and donned full pirate attire which won them the best-dressed prize.
David Jamieson took home the trophy for the male 5k race, crossing the line in 17 minutes 34 seconds, while Emma Barr won the female 5k with a finishing time of 21 minutes one seconds.
Dandara’s sales director in Aberdeen, Peter Best, said: “The Dandara 5k just gets better every year and we are thrilled to have raised £4,000 for such a worthy cause.
“Hazlehead Park is a cornerstone of the Aberdeen community and the money raised from this event will go towards the continued revitalisation of the park. It was fantastic to see so many runners of all ages turn out and get active while supporting a worthy cause.”
