Local charity, Macmillan Cancer Support, is seeking runners to join ‘Team Macmillan’ at a popular running event at Balmoral Castle. Run Balmoral will take place over the weekend of the 23rd & 24th of April 2016 and is a firm favourite in the running calendar attracting runners worldwide.

People of all ages will run through the grounds of this historic estate, on what has to be one of the most scenic runs in the UK. Macmillan has spaces available for the corporate team challenge, 10K, 5K & Duathlon race.

Senior Fundraising Manager Jennifer Mitchell said ‘Run Balmoral is simply the most majestic run; the weekend has something for everyone and is a fantastic day out for all the family. In my work, I often come across people whose lives have been thrown into disarray by a cancer diagnosis. That’s why choosing to run for Team Macmillan is so important. When families are at breaking point and have nowhere else to turn, we’re here to help. But we can only do this if we have your support’

Macmillan is not government funded and relies on 98% of its funding to come from corporate donations, private individuals, committees, groups & associations. Without you we wouldn’t be able to provide the support we do, locally we provide four key areas, emotional, practical, financial and medical support. Macmillan is investing in a number of new services to support people affected by cancer across Aberdeen City and the wider Aberdeenshire region.

A record number of people took part in last year’s event and race organisers hope even more will lace up their trainers this time round.

Alex Davidson who ran for Macmillan recently and has signed up for the Balmoral 10K said “Being part of Team Macmillan is an incredible experience.

“I recently ran for them for the first time in the Edinburgh half-marathon and the support they give you really is second to none. I feel proud to run and help such a fantastic charity that supports so many people through difficult times.

“Taking on the 10k is my way of giving something back.”
