RGU:Union shortlisted for four national awards

Robert Gordon University’s (RGU) Students’ Union (RGU:Union) has been shortlisted for four categories in the National Union of Students (NUS) Scotland Awards, making it the most nominated university student association in the running.

RGU:Union has been shortlisted for ‘Officer Team of the Year’, ‘Diversity’, and ‘Campaign of the Year’ for its award winning Safe Taxi Scheme launched in 2015, as well as an award nomination for one of its staff members, Stevie Kearney, for his dedicated work in student volunteering and development.

The winners are to be announced at a ceremony taking place on Friday, March 18 at the NUS Scotland Conference in Dundee.

NUS Scotland, a voluntary membership organisation, is the national union of college and university students’ association run entirely by students to defend and extend student rights.

The Annual Award Ceremony has been successful for the last seven years, providing an opportunity to recognise hard work and excellence by student associations around Scotland.

In addition to the NUS Awards, Marty McGouran, the chairman of the fundraising arm of RGU:Union, RGU:RAG, has also been shortlisted for a national award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Student Affairs’ for the Nursing Times.

Edward Pollock, RGU Student President for Communication and Democracy, said that he is proud to see RGU:Union receive the highest number of nominations from any university this year.

He said: “The work of RGU:Union is only possible thanks to the outstanding staff members that we have. In what has been a challenging year for our officer team, RGU:Union has been able to bring about a number of changes and developments, which would have been impossible without the hard work and outstanding dedication of everyone involved.”
