Robert Gordon University (RGU) will co-host a major conference this week which will attract more than 200 delegates from across the social care professions.
The Social Pedagogy Development Network Conference will be held in Aberdeen on Thursday, June 9 and Friday, June 10.
Jointly hosted by Camphill School Aberdeen on Thursday and Robert Gordon University on Friday, the conference will explore social pedagogy through the course of an individual’s life and support participants on their social pedagogy journeys. The event will also further the discussion about social pedagogy in the UK.
Patrick Walker, senior lecturer at RGU, has worked with colleagues at the university and the Social Policy Development Network to organise the event.
Janine Bolger, head of Social Work in the School of Applied Social Studies, said: “There is growing interest in social pedagogy in Scotland as an area of academic study and also as an approach particularly in residential child care.
“We are in the second year of delivery of our BA Social Pedagogy course which was developed in collaboration with Camphill School and we are delighted to have been approached by the national network to host this event with them.
“Whilst social pedagogy has gained much interest within the children and young people’s workforce here in the UK, it has yet to gain ground in adult settings.
“By exploring its integrative potential as an academic discipline and field of practice across the entire lifecourse, we aim to strengthen emerging interest and demonstrate the benefits of a framework which spans services for children and adults.”
