A Robert Gordon University (RGU) student has come out on top in a competition searching for the best undergraduate computing student in the UK.
Corrie Green (19), a third year Computer Science (Application Software Development) student at RGU, has been announced as the winner of the TARGETjobs Computer Science and Analytics Undergraduate of the Year title, sponsored by Expedia.
Actively contributing and organising public debates and events throughout the UK, to encourage and inspire young developers to participate in Hackathons, Dev Bars and Game Jams, Corrie has been involved in the games development industry since the age of 16 and has continued to release games with industry professionals HexWar, Hunted Cow studios and independently since.
With products receiving top honours and wins at Game Jams, Corrie enjoys learning new technologies for his projects from 3D animation to creating dynamic webpages and software.
To qualify for the final, Corrie first had to complete a series of online tests before traveling to London to take part in an assessment centre session and interview with award sponsor Expedia.
He impressed the company so much that they invited him to apply for a three month internship which he will complete over the summer, as well as spending a week in Expedia’s head office in Seattle.
Corrie was one of 120 undergraduates from across the UK invited to the final in Canary Wharf for the final awards ceremony.
The TARGETjobs Undergraduate of the Year Awards, which launched six years and now features 12 prestigious awards, aims to celebrate the best undergraduate students at UK universities and looks for a combination of academic excellence, the ability to pass difficult online assessments and good communication and interpersonal skills.
RGU International Business Management students Daniel Tait and Stephanie Barclay were also shortlisted in the Future Business Leader of the Year and Management Undergraduate of the Year categories respectively.
Corrie said: “I’m delighted to have won - the event was really fantastic, and it was great to see the other finalists again, and share a meal with them in Canary Wharf. I'm looking forward to meeting more of the Expedia team in Seattle for a week in July, and also can’t wait to start my internship with them as they are all very friendly and welcoming.”
Computing Science Course Leader, Dr John Isaacs, said: “Everyone at the School is absolutely delighted that Corrie has won the Undergraduate of the Year. This is such a prestigious award and it is really great to see the hard work and dedication Corrie has made to his university studies, and his own development, rewarded in this way.
“I am sure he will have a great time at Expedia and I can’t wait to see what he achieves next.”
Technical & Analytics University Recruiter at Expedia, Danielle Jacovelli, said: “We are delighted to welcome Corrie to Expedia this summer. He displayed natural leadership, got his hands dirty with data, and demonstrated his passion for the travel technology industry.
“He proved himself to be an all-rounder in big data analytics, technology development, with a strong commercial awareness. These qualities will serve Corrie well in the Expedia summer internship programme.”
