Robert Gordon University (RGU) has made an appointment to its Department for the Enhancement of Learning, Teaching and Access (DELTA) to develop a higher education apprenticeship model for the North-east of Scotland.
Sally Sweet has been appointed as a senior project co-ordinator within the university’s DELTA where she is responsible for the development of a Graduate Level Apprenticeship (GLA) model at RGU.
In her role, Ms Sweet will work with Skills Development Scotland to establish a Graduate Level Apprenticeship (GLA) model for RGU which the university is developing in response to the national need for advanced vocational learning as outlined by the Developing Scotland’s Young Workforce Commission.
Ms Sweet joins RGU from Aberdeen City Council where she held a number of roles related to opportunities for young people, most recently as a development officer within education for Developing the Young Workforce, the Scottish Government’s implementation plan in response to the Commission’s report.
Ms Sweet said: “RGU is highly regarded for its employability and industry-focused teaching so I am looking forward to working with the university and its partners to establish a graduate apprenticeship model which offers young people work based learning opportunities and qualifications in line with the demands of employers in industry and business.”
A Graduate Level Apprenticeship integrates employment and education and is aimed at employers who wish to invest in their workforce or at individuals in the workplace who wish to gain a degree-level qualification.
It offers a transferable qualification with higher level learning, employability skills and industry accreditation to help individuals progress their career. RGU will offer its first GLA in computing in 2017.
