Students and staff at Robert Gordon University (RGU) have been urged to sign up for a unique charity cycling event on campus later this week which will raise money for the on-going refugee crisis.
The RGU Century Cycle will take place on Friday, November 27 from 10.30pm to 6am on Saturday, November 28. It will raise funds for the TLC Foodbank which is taking a leading role in helping refugees across the north-east.
The cycle will take place on a floodlit course through RGU’s Garthdee Campus which will see teams collectively cycling 100 miles around a loop from Gray’s School of Art to the car park at the new Scott Sutherland Building.
The event has been organised by GianPiero Franchi, President of Sport and Physical Activity, who is expecting a strong turnout on the night with the cycle being started by Principal of RGU Professor Ferdinand von Prondzynski.
GianPiero said: “I’m really looking forward to the RGU Century Cycle and hope as many people as possible sign up for what will be a memorable evening cycling round the campus under flood lights.
“The goal for each team is to reach 100 miles throughout the night, with five to ten riders in each team changing partners regularly.
“We aim to raise awareness and funds for the TLC Foodbank which gives our campus community the opportunity to support the effort to help refugees in our local area.”
When the challenge ends at 6am, participants will stop cycling and get their breakfast and a medal at RGU Sport.
