Work created by nine graduates from Robert Gordon University (RGU) will be featured in a prestigious exhibition this week.
The graduates were selected from Gray’s School of Art and the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment as part of the eighth annual Royal Scottish Academy (RSA) New Contemporaries exhibition, which will take place at the RSA Galleries in Edinburgh from Saturday, March 5 to Wednesday, March 30.
The exhibition, which spans painting, sculpture, film making, photography, printmaking, architecture and installation, will give 61 graduates from Scotland’s art and architecture schools the opportunity to launch their career at one of Scotland’s most high profile galleries.
Among the Gray’s graduates chosen to exhibit is Hannah Murray (22) from Inverness, who graduated from the Painting course last year.
She said: “It's a massive opportunity to have my work exhibited at the RSA as part of New Contemporaries and I'm really excited to see my work up on the wall amongst all the other artwork.
“In terms of career development, New Contemporaries offers me the opportunity to expose my work to a far wider audience than I've ever done before so who knows what it could lead to. Apart from anything else it has given me the confidence to continue creating work.”
Also exhibiting is Gemma Jamieson (24), from Peterhead, who graduated with an Honours degree in Printmaking.
The former Peterhead Academy pupil, who challenged the north-east’s boy racer culture with her Degree Show piece - a crashed car - last year, says she is delighted to be exhibiting at the show.
“Although I received the RSA award with my crashed car I sadly couldn't take it to Edinburgh for the show,” Gemma said. “However, I am keeping with the banger theme and making numerous printed embroidery hoops all containing banger cars and parts.
“My project shows that despite all that happens in a race and all the money that goes into it, it is still a hobby and I've chosen to show that through the opposite of a very girlie interest.”
Gray’s graduates Emily Hill, Rebecca Moffat, Jenni Murison, Laura Porteous, Veronika Pristoupiloa and Tako Taal, and Scott Sutherland School graduate Jill Marks, will also be exhibiting.
A variety of monetary awards and prizes will be awarded at the exhibition, in addition to residency, studio memberships and purchase prizes.
