Students, residents, businesses and other organisations in the North East are being urged to recycle their electronics at a free event in Aberdeen, which will be hosted by the University of Aberdeen, in partnership with European Recycling Platform (ERP). The free recycling event takes place from 8.00am to 3.00pm on Friday September 16.

The event forms part of Recycle Week, a celebration of recycling which takes place this year from September 12-18. Now in its 13th year, the aim of Recycle Week is to encourage everyone to think about all those items that often get forgotten about when recycling at home or in the office.

This is the third e-waste recycling event to be held at the University of Aberdeen. The previous events, in June 2012 and June 2016, collected over 16 tonnes of e-waste and the organisers are hoping that even more items will be collected for recycling this year.

E-waste should be brought to the rear entrance of the University’s MacRobert building, accessed from St Machar Drive, near the roundabout with King Street. All types of business and household e-waste will be accepted, with no charge, and staff will be on hand to help with unloading. All electronics will be sorted and treated within the UK.

Christopher Osbeck, transport and waste manager at the University of Aberdeen, said: “The University is committed to environmental sustainability both through our teaching and research and through the day to day operation of the University and is pleased to be able to host a proactive recycling event which will help the local community. We hope people will take the opportunity to recycle their electronic waste and we’ll be encouraging the whole University community to take part.”

John Redmayne, ERP UK general manager, said: “I am very pleased that we are part of another e-waste recycling event in Aberdeen. I hope as many local people, students and businesses as possible will do their bit for the environment and bring along their e-waste for recycling during Recycle Week.”
