Inverurie-based road materials specialist Red Stag Materials has announced a sustainability-focused partnership with TreeApp, pledging to plant a mangrove tree in Indonesia for every online order placed.

The initiative, which began in 2024, is already yielding tangible environmental benefits.

To date, Red Stag has planted 1,332 trees through TreeApp - equivalent to capturing over 145 tonnes of carbon over the trees’ lifetimes. The firm’s decision to focus on mangrove planting was no accident: mangroves are among the most efficient carbon-absorbing species on the planet, while also offering critical support to local communities in Indonesia through jobs and ecosystem restoration.

“Planting trees is one part of our wider responsibility to the environment,” said Red Stag Materials’ managing director Grant Shewan.

“As a company working in highways and infrastructure, we’re conscious of the impact our sector can have. That’s why our commitment extends to both carbon offsetting and offering products that help reduce emissions from the outset.”

Founded in 2018 and headquartered in Inverurie, Red Stag specialises in extending the life of road surfaces through practical, sustainable solutions.

Central to its offering is EZ Street Asphalt - a carbon-neutral cold asphalt product designed for quick, durable pothole repair. The product allows highway teams to carry out effective repairs in all weather conditions without the need for heating or complex machinery, helping to reduce overall emissions and repair costs.

As public concern grows around deteriorating road conditions - particularly in the wake of the 2025 ALARM survey reporting a record £16.81billion backlog in carriageway repairs across England and Wales - the role of innovation in road maintenance has never been more critical.

Red Stag’s dual focus on carbon reduction and product performance places it at the intersection of two major challenges facing local authorities: environmental responsibility and effective asset management.

This environmental alignment has also supported the firm’s ambitions overseas. With backing from Scottish Enterprise, Red Stag is expanding exports of its EZ Street product to key international markets including the Middle East, Africa, and Continental Europe.

As a gesture of support for local business, Red Stag is now offering Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce members a 10% discount on all EZ Street Asphalt orders - available in bags, buckets, and bulk sacks - until 30 April. Members can redeem this exclusive offer at www.redstagmaterials.com using the code AGCC10 at checkout.
